Many of the founding members and the founders themselves were involved with public speaking, debate, Model UN, mock trial, or a similar extracurricular. The more they trained for upcoming tournaments, the more they learned about modern issues that affected American youth. However, there was no way to actually drive change with words. CT Speech & Action was founded with the idea that both raising awareness and making a real difference were essential components to public speaking.
